United National Party leader Ranil Wickremsinghe is reaping what he has sown, says son of the slain Presidential candidate Gamini Dissanayake.
Addressing a political rally yesterday in Polonnaruwa, Minister Navin Dissanayake said Wickremesinghe is now facing the whip-lash of the actions he undertook to defeat his father in the 1994 presidential elections. He added: ''According to the teachings of Buddhism, you have to pay for the sins you have committed either in this life or in lives to come. Ranil Wickremesinghe is now reaping what he has sown. He wronged my father.”
He said that there may be no legal background, but ethically, Wickremesinghe has wronged his father. “That is what he is paying for now. This is why he cannot emerge victorious. He could not even hold on to the solitary victory that was won in 2001. I believe that my father, wherever he may be is now looking at Ranil and saying, for what you did to me in '94, I will ensure that you will never come into power,” he added.
Dissanayake’s statement comes in the wake of Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary, Maithripala saying he has proof to show that Wickremesinghe made sure that Gamini Dissanayaka was defeated in the elections by providing information to UPFA Presidential candidate Chandrika Kumaratunga |
